Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System(IRNSS)-ISRO
IRNSS is an independent regional navigation system being developed by India. It is designed to provide accurate position information service to users in India as well as the region extending up to 1500 km from its boundary, which is its primary service area.
NAVIC-India’s own GPS: This is example of #“Made in India” and “Made for Indians“.
Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System(IRNSS)-ISRO:-
Story Behind Developing IRNSS:-During kargil war in 1999, Indian army was dependent on GPS navigation in extremely difficult Himalayan terrain. Due to Unforeseen” decisions of then Pakistan friendly Democrat President Clinton, GPS data to Indian Military was blocked. India learnt a valuable lesson from this. Might have lost some extra lives too due to this backstabbing experienced.
So a new project was taken up.17 Years later, today, we are almost ready for IRNSS which is Indian Equivalent of GPS data. 7th and final satellite 1G was launched today. Indian becomes the Sixth Country (Europe Tracked as One Country) to have its own positioning data. As Narendra Modi said “This is truly the Make In India that he keeps taking about!”
7 satellites complete the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).
–It provides accurate real-time Positioning and timing services.
-Benefits fisherman, farmers and all other people of entire India and SAARC region.
Benefits of IRNSS:-
- terrestrial, Aerial and Marine Navigation.
- Disaster Management.
- Vehicle tracking and fleet management.
- Integration with mobile phones.
- Precise Timing.
- Visual and voice navigation for drivers.
- Mapping and Geodetic data capture.
- Terrestrials navigation aid for hikers and travelers.
